Civil & Structural Engineering Technician

Primary Duties

  • Reporting to the Associate Technical Director.

  • Supporting Project Engineers in the timely and efficient delivery of project information.

  • Preparation of detailed structural and drainage general arrangement and detail drawings suitable for building regulation submission and construction purposes.

  • Liaise with clients, external consultants, local authorities and statutory service undertakers throughout the design process.

  • Manage your own workload and time efficiently and within budget.

  • Constantly maintain and develop your own technical knowledge.

  • Assist in the development of a comprehensive library of standard construction details

Key Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience within a busy design environment having achieved a broad understanding of both Structural and Civil/infrastructure Engineering.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • An ability to create accurate engineering drawings using the latest versions of AutoCAD.

  • Competency in preparing clear and concise construction details in all major materials and in particular reinforced concrete and structural steelwork.

  • An understanding of BIM objectives and protocols.

  • Experienced in the use of 3D modelling software such as REVIT.

  • Ability to work effectively within a team to achieve project deadlines.

  • Experience or a willingness to develop competency using advanced modelling software such as Micro Drainage and Tekla Structures.

Senior Project Engineer

Reporting directly to the Principal and Technical Director.

Primary Duties

  • Manage and take ownership of design projects up to £5million in value, both technically and commercially.

  • Manage company resources to ensure the efficient and timely project delivery as well as client satisfaction

  • Undertake complex structural designs from project feasibility through to detailed design stage.

  • Undertake project technical reviews to ensure that quality assurance standards are maintained at all times.

  • Represent the company at design, tender, contract and site meetings as necessary.

  • Liaise with clients, external consultants, contractors, local authorities and statutory service undertakers as necessary throughout the duration of the project.

  • Manage your own workload and time efficiently and within budget.

  • Constantly maintain and develop your own technical knowledge.

  • Mentor junior staff and take a proactive interest in personal and team development.

  • Support work-winning initiatives, including the preparation and management of project budgets & programmes.

Key Requirements

  • Incorporated, near or recently Chartered with IStructE/ICE. Alternatively, able to demonstrate proven and appropriate long-term consultancy-based experience.

  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to continuing professional development.

  • A thorough understanding of British Standards and Eurocodes relevant to UK structural engineering design.

  • A high degree of general computer literacy with good working knowledge of design calculation software such as TEDDS, along with an understanding of 2D & 3D analysis tools such as Quiksoft and TEKLA.

 

  • Competency in the use of the latest versions of AutoCAD. Working knowledge REVIT would be advantageous.

  • Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills coupled with an ability to effectively manage client expectations.

  • A high degree of commercial awareness.

  • Attention to detail and an ability to work under pressure as part of a team to ensure the effective delivery of projects.

  • An understanding of BIM objectives and protocols.
